Flodden walk on last lap
AS the countdown continues to to next year’s 500th anniversary of the battle of Flodden, Sunday will see the last section of the sponsored walk between Selkirk and the battlefield completed.
The three-and-a-half mile section from Cornhill Village Hall to Flodden begins at 10.30am.
The first mile follows old railway tracks followed by a very short section on the road before it joins farm tracks. Another very short road section takes walkers to the car park at the Flodden Memorial.
A wreath will be laid by the Flodden 500 Association chairman before walkers return by minibus to Cornhill village hall, where food will be provided.
Sponsor sheets are available from committee members. Anyone not wanting to get sponsors is asked for a £10 donation to the association.
Transport will be provided from Selkirk and back by minibus. Names, please to Shoe World by today as spaces will be limited. No dogs are allowed on this section of the walk.
The association says massive thanks are due to everyone who took part in the treasuer hunt.
Also on Sunday – the anniversary of the battle – Selkirk Ex-Standard Bearers will join members of the Coldstream-based Flodden 1513 Club for an evening commemoration at the club’s memorial site in the town and at the battlefield memorial.
