Helpers and participants HART of the matter

On behalf of the committee of Scottish HART I would like to thank all those who participated in and helped organise this year's Cameron Gunn Memorial Soccer Sevens Festival.

It has grown into the largest footballing event for youngsters in south-east Scotland and just short of 100 teams participated, a truly amazing number.

We would like to express our gratitude to Dougie Anderson, the SFA's senior development officer, Drew Kelly, Mark Forsyth and the rest of the SFA staff – it is thanks to their efforts that the festival has become bigger and better with each passing year.

We would also like to thank Jim Hume MSP, Councillor Frances Renton, Gavin Hamilton and Allan Doyle for presenting trophies and medals.

The money raised will help support Scottish Hart in our mission to establish a screening programme for youngsters involved in sport, to communicate with families afflicted by heart disease and offer them help, information, advice and support.

The money also will help maintain our efforts to provide life-saving defibrillators in public places. A number of these machines have already been used to save lives.

Finally a big thank you to all the children, parents and coaches who made sure that despite the weather, the day will be remembered for fun, skill, commitment and sportsmanship.
