Takeaway troubles

I am writing about the proposed conversion of the shop at 27 High Street to a takeaway.

What does the Scottish Borders planning committee take into account when granting permits? Not the views of the local residents or the local councillor, apparently.

There are already six takeaway food outlets in the area. The new one will be taking away revenue from the established businesses and creating more trash to be stewn in our streets.

I also find it a bit disconcerting that Derek Ingles said anyone parking outside the shop would be doing so illegally, which is a police, rather than a planning matter. I would have thought that the planning committee should be working along with the police and not ignoring the fact that their decision would almost certainly cause illegal parking.

Maybe they are hoping for some accidents on that corner of the A7, to give them grounds for speeding up a bypass.
