Last year was the centenary year of Macmillan Cancer Support – and to celebrate, the Ettrick Valley committee organised two sponsored walks.
They were delighted to have more than 100 taking part on what was a wet and windy October Sunday. A total of £4,228.45 has been raised to date and this was handed over to Giles Henry, chairman of the committee, at its Burns supper.
We wish to say a huge thank you to Selkirk Rugby Club for allowing us to use their facilities and to everyone who helped with the organisation on the day within the clubrooms. Also to the committee members who organised the lunch. The walk leaders, Jack Jones and Les Rutherford, on the Three Brethren walk, and Irene McFadzen on the Ettrick Riverside walk.
A special thank you to the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue team for supporting the walkers with both team members and a vehicle. Also, special thanks to the Riddell Fiddles group who provided a wonderful musical welcome for our walkers at the very windy Three Brethren summit and then again with more music to welcome the walkers back to the rugby club.
Finally, a huge thank you to all of the walkers who supported us on the day, for their participation, sponsor money and donations.
