Edgar’s hope for old bridge

there is hope that the crumbling, old Tweed Bridge can be restored soon, writes Kenny Paterson.

Negotiations are continuing between Transport Scotland and Scottish Borders Council over the future of the 100-year-old crossing, where Ettrick and Tweed meet, which is open to cyclists and pedestrians but not vehicles due to significant cracks in its structure.

Selkirkshire councillor Gordon Edgar said: “We are trying to get Transport Scotland to repair the bridge before the council takes it over.

“These negotiations have gone on for years, but hopefully something will be agreed in the near future.

“It is important the bridge is sorted before next year’s Selkirk Rally (at nearby Sunderland Hall), and also because it forms part of the Selkirk Cycle Way to Galashiels.”
