Gunn stacks his hopes on election to local Co-op
DEFEATED councillor Kenneth Gunn is back on the election trail – this time for the local Co-op, writes Bob Burgess.
He’s one of 12 candidates fighting five places on the 13-strong Lothian and Borders area committee of the Co-operative Group’s Scotland and Northern Ireland region.
Area committee members receive an annual fee of £2,173.55, plus expenses, and the committee meets eight times a year.
Mr Gunn told The Wee Paper: “I complained about the local Co-op not having something in the grocery department and a manager in Glasgow suggested I stand for election. I am interested in anything that improves the shopping habits of people in Selkirk.”
In his election statement he declares: “When first married, we furnished our house exclusively from the local Co-op and have used the society for hardware as well as groceries ever since.”
He adds: “I am well known across the Scottish Borders as a writer and journalist, and also as an entertainer.”
And he says that while the area is part of the larger group, it has to maintain its local identity.
Other Border candidates are Lorraine Lynn, Kelso, and Alison Lamond, Melrose.
