Reversing car seriously injures Melrose pedestrians

A MAN and a woman have been seriously injured by a reversing car in Melrose, writes Bob Burgess.

They were hit by a Vauxhall Astra outside the George and Abbotsford Hotel on the town’s High Street at 10.55am today.

The man aged 47 and the 42-year-old woman were taken to the nearby Borders General Hospital.

Lothian and Borders Police are investigating and have issued a plea for witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Richard Latto said :“This was a very serious road collision that took place on a busy high street where there would have been a number of shoppers around.

“We are making all attempts to establish the full circumstances in relation to this collision, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident to get in touch.”

Melrose High Street was closed until 1.30pm while police accident specialists carried out an investigation.
