Souters return to Flodden battlefield

editorial image

ROYAL Burgh Standard Bearer Gavin Henderson paid tribute on Sunday to the dead of Flodden on the 499th anniversary of the bloody battle.

Ex-Standard Bearers joined members of the Coldstream-based 1513 Club on their pilgrimage to the battlefield which they make each year on the anniversary of the battle.

At Branxton Hill, Gavin laid a wreath on the granite cross memorial alongside 1513 Club member Harry Brydon.

A pipe lament was sounded by Duncan Bell and the 1513 Club flag was dipped as the notes of Last Post from bugler Peter Meikle drifted through the early evening air.

The Ex-Standard Bearers’ party also joined a remembrance ceremony at the 1513 club’s own memorial near Coldstream.

Former Standard Bearers are attending the club’s annual dinner which takes place tonight at the Royal British Legion Scotland, Coldstream.
