Frightened Rabbit to be caught in spotlight

Frightened Rabbit appear at TweedLove Festival

SELKIRK indie group Frightened Rabbit will make their long-awaited return to the Borders next month at TweedLove, the mountain bike and cycling festival.

The generous band have promised to put any proceeds from the gig, on Saturday, June 18 in Peebles Burgh Hall, towards next year’s programme.

This year’s expanded series of free and paid-for events, being staged throughout the Tweed Valley from Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, June 19, includes Crank It Up, the new closing concert for the week with Frightened Rabbit.

The band are currently penning their first album with Atlantic Records, having joined the global label after three successful CDs with FatCat Records which culminated in two sold-out shows at Glasgow’s Barrowlands in December last year.

TweedLove organiser Neil Dalgleish said: “It’s fantastic for us to have Frightened Rabbit at TweedLove.

“It might seem odd to have a gig as part of a bike festival, but mountain biking is one of the world’s coolest sports and Frightened Rabbit are one of Scotland’s coolest bands so it all makes total sense to us.”

Soon after playing in Peebles, brothers Scott and Grant Hutchison, Billy Kennedy, Andy Monaghan and Gordon Skene will jet off to USA to support Grammy-nominated Death Cab For Cutie.

“It’s a major coup for us and we can’t thank the band enough for agreeing to play,” commented Neil.

“It gives our whole festival a big boost, and the fact that they’ve agreed to put any proceeds towards next year’s festival is just brilliant.”

Neil has previously mixed outdoor activities and music at the Outsider Festival, in Aviemore in 2007, which included trail running and a mountain bike marathon alongside appearances by KT Tunstall and Crowded House.

“I hope we can go on and build from here,” Neil added.

“It just seems like such a great combination to me - spend the day outdoors, come home on a high and have a great gig to go to at night. Sport and culture aren’t mutually exclusive, it’s just a case of getting the combination right.”

Frightened Rabbit, who also appear at the Rockness Festival next month, will be supported by the Filthy Tongues.

TweedLove is organised by the local community, Scottish Borders Council and Lothian and Borders Police, as well as Borders businesses, cycling clubs, organisations and biking enthusiasts.

Tickets for Frightened Rabbit are priced at £15 and the gig starts at 7.30pm. Tickets can be bought from.tweedlove.com, where places for free and paid cycling events in the TweedLove programme can also be booked.
