Rabbits make their mark on UK chart
FRIGHTENED Rabbit have scored their first top 10 album.
Pedestrian Verse went straight into the UK Album Chart at number nine, just one place behind Barbadian pop star Rihanna.
The top 10 spot is a major breakthrough for the Souters, whose previous record The Winter of Mixed Drinks only reached number 61 in 2010.
Tweeting on the band’s twitter page, frontman Scott Hutchison said: “Nine years ago I started a wee solo ‘thing’ called Frightened Rabbit. Today that ‘thing’ is #9 in the UK charts. Thank you.”
Scott told The Wee Paper this month that he felt Pedestrian Verse was the group’s best yet, having worked on it for 18 months under new label Atlantic Records.
“I think it is well thought-out, detailed, and shows where we are after seven years as a band,” he added.
Scott also told us he was hoping Frightened Rabbit would return to Selkirk this year for a gig of some sort, despite a hectic 2013 schedule.
Frightened Rabbit will find out where they are placed this Sunday, with Les Miserables soundtrack currently number one, and Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro and Aberdeen star Emeli Sande close by in the top 10.
Meanwhile, the winner of The Wee Paper’s competition for a copy of Pedestrian Verse is Dot Malkin of Kingsland Drive.
