This June, Robert Mailer Anderson will retrace his great-grandfather’s footsteps when he travels from the USA to be Colonial Standard Bearer.

Robert, from San Francisco, was unanimously appointed to be this year’s holder of the post at a meeting of the Colonial Society.

A seventh-generation Californian, he is the great-grandson of Robert Anderson, otherwise known as Honolulu Bob, the Colonial Society Standard Bearer in 1913.

The newly-appointed incumbent is the best-selling author of Boonville, a contributor to major US publications, and a film and theatre producer.

The film, Pig Hunt, which he co-wrote and produced, won awards and he has been a San Francisco Library Laureate, as well as a board member of the San Francisco Opera Association and SFJAZZ.

During the 2012 US election, Robert was a member of the National Finance Committee, and hosted President Barack Obama at a dinner.

Married to Nicola Miner, the couple have four children and Nicola will be her husband’s lady busser on the big day in June, when they will also be accompanied by their four children, eight uncles, aunts and cousins.

Honolulu Bob was Robert Anderson, who emigrated to Hawaii in 1898.

An accountant employed by the Honolulu Iron Works, he returned to Selkirk in 1937 with his wife, Margaret, and was Colonial Society chairman from 1940-46.

He and his wife eventually moved to California and Margaret died in 1949, with Honolulu Bob passing away three years later.
