Rowland’s says thanks
Rowland's Callum, Flora, Courtney and Natasha took part in the Sainsbury's sponsored cooking creations workshops.
ROWLAND’S coffers have expanded thanks to a quiz night which raised almost £300 for the youth project, writes Kenny Paterson.
The West Port-based organisation thanked all those who took part in the event –sponsored by Sainsbury’s – which was held in Selkirk High School last month.
And Rowland’s have also paid tribute to all the groups who back its programmes throughout the year.
Avril McIntyre, of Rowland’s, said: “From October 1, 2011, to September 31 this year, Rowland’s supported 1,194 boys and 803 girls in group work programmes. This would not be possible without the support of organisations such as Sainsbury’s, Spark Energy, or the charitable trusts who fund us, such as Children In Need, Scottish Borders Children’s Young People’s Planning Partnership and The Robertson Trust.
“The organisation only has three part-time staff – the rest are volunteers from Selkirk and the surrounding area. Without the community’s support, Rowland’s could not make such an impact.”
This year’s summer projects included film writing scheme VOMO and its Marshness showcase performed at the Alchemy Film Festival.
And its current work involves an outreach programme engaging with young people on the streets, smoking cessation support for teenagers, anti-bullying awareness and art, craft and cooking workshops.
