Selkirk Fairtrade’s competition for Selkirk High School pupils to design a Fairtrade cotton t-shirt promoting the cause has been won by second-year student Harry Murphy.
The designs were judged by Fiona Hyslop, MSP and Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs in the Scottish Government, and the announcement was made at a school assembly this week.
The four runners-up are Elishia Little, Emily McLeister, Rachel Scott and Jo Arres, who last week won a competition to design a poster advertising the Selkirk Fairtrade Fashion Show, Wear Fair, featuring both Fairtrade fashion and local fashion, and which takes place in the High School on Friday, March 9 at 7pm. Harry, Elishia, Emily, Rachel and Jo Marr and Jo Arres have all been invited to the Scottish Parliament later this month to meet their constituency MSP, be given a tour of the Scottish Parliament, attend First Minister’s Question Time, and meet Fiona Hyslop, MSP.
Selkirk firm Bordersprint are helping put Harry’s winning design onto Fairtrade cotton t-shirts which can be purchased at the town’s Fairtrade Fashion Show.
Tickets for Wear Fair are £5 (£2.50 for school children), and are available at the Scott’s Selkirk Shop or from members of the Selkirk Fairtrade Steering Group.
