Tributes paid to tragic Selkirk man Martin
Martin Lindsay, who died on holiday in Turkey this week
SELKIRK’S Martin Lindsay has been fondly remembered this week, following his sudden death while on holiday abroad.
The 40-year-old died on Monday in the popular Turkish resort of Marmaris, a few days into his vacation.
Originally from Tweedbank, he worked at the village’s Scottish Public Pensions Agency as a team leader in the payroll section.
Shocked SPPA staff were told on Monday of the tragic news, as were friends of the talented singer, who was well known as a karaoke performer.
Derek McGill, a school friend of Mr Lindsay, said: “Martin had a massive, amazing voice and was a drummer in Stow Pipe Band.
“He was a big fan of Tottenham Hotspur and was a great character.
“He never had a bad word to say against anyone. He was just a great guy and will be sorely missed.”
A colleague at SPPA added: “He had been looking forward to the holiday and the heat. He was well known for his taste in shoes and his dress sense.”
Messages of condolence for the former Galashiels Academy pupil have poured in via social media website Facebook.
One said: “A true gentleman with a wicked sense of humour, will be sadly missed.”
Mr Lindsay, who formerly worked at Careline Services in Selkirk, is survived by wife Tania and stepchildren Ciaran, Iona and Patrick.
Other members of Mr Lindsay’s grieving family are his two brothers, Jamie and Robert, and his parents Elizabeth and Keith.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of the death of a British national in Marmaris, Turkey on July 23.
“Staff have been in contact with next of kin and are providing consular assistance.”
