Earlston High head teacher appointed education chief

Ms Strong is currently head teacher at Earlston High School. She has been in that post for eight years.

In her new position as lead member of the senior management team for all learning communities in the Scottish Borders, she will be responsible for the management and strategic development of all nursery, primary and secondary schools, in line with national requirements and the council’s strategic aims.

Ms Strong said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to take on this role.

“This is a very exciting time for Scottish education and I look forward to helping to shape the future direction of the service for the children and young people of our region.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed leading Earlston High School and wish to thank the students, parents and staff for their ongoing support.”

Ms Strong will remain in her current post until an acting head teacher for Earlston High School has been found.

Councillor Sandy Aitchison, SBC’s executive member for education said: “Michelle is an exceptionally strong candidate who not only brings a wealth of experience to the role but is highly ambitious for the future of education provision in the Borders.

“She has made significant improvements during her tenure at Earlston and while parents and pupils alike will be sorry to see her go, I am sure that they wish her every success with her new role.

“I have no doubt that she will be a major asset to the council’s senior education team and look forward to working with her as we continue with our aspirations for delivering the highest educational standards we can for the children and young people of the Borders.”
