SELKIRK hairdresser Phemie Beattie finished in the top 20 in a UK-wide modelling competition on Saturday night.

Miss Beattie, 28, of Haining Park, was 11th overall in the Model of the Year competition in Norwich and won a runners-up award when she came second in the event’s sport and fitness contest.

She told us: “It was the best weekend of my life! The whole day was full-on. (Organiser and model) Kerri Parker was an amazing host and taught us all so well, and looked after us all throughout the day. It was such a great experience being on stage for a live TV audience with so many contestants. The atmosphere was awesome!”

There were 60 finalists, from an initial 1,000, competing in the former ITV studios over the weekend.
