Battling to celebrate Philiphaugh

MONDAY is the 365th anniversary of the Battle of Philiphaugh.

On September 13, 1645, some 6,000 Covenanters under the command of General David Leslie - like those in the re-enactment above - defeated a royalist army under the Marquis of Montrose. Tomorrow the Battle of Philiphaugh Community Project starts a series of exhibitions, recreations and guided walks for Borders Heritage Week. It will culminate in a re-enactment of the battle next year.
