Beat bobby’s crime round-up
ALTHOUGH police attended 144 incidents in Selkirk in the past month, only 11 crimes were recorded and, of these, three have been solved.
Reporting to the community council on Monday, local beat officer PC Roy Brown said there had been one assault and four vandalisms, the latter occuring in different parts of the town. There had been three breaches of the peace, a theft by housebreaking and two thefts of diesel from the Dunsdale road area.
PC Brown renewed pleas for anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact the police. Over the past month, there had been five youth calls to the Selkirk area, including three in the town centre and one each in Kingsland Avenue and Victoria Place. There was also one seizure of alcohol from an underager during this period.
He revealed that in a joint initiative with the community wardens, an unmarked CCTV van had been operating in the Selkirk town centre to monitor gatherings of youths.
“There were a number of youths on the street during this operation but there were no issues with any of them,” said PC Brown.
He also highlighted a spate of thefts of heating oil in the Borders area during the past month.
While Selkirk had not yet been targeted, householders were advised to check their fuel levels regularly and, if they require crime prevention advice, to contact Selkirk police station.
