Bookie Andy at high odds – 5,000ft in fact
SELKIRK’S UK bookie of the year Andy Bennett gambled with his life on his latest fundraiser.
The Scotbet manager booked himself on a 5,000ft static line parachute jump – very similar to a sky dive – from a plane above Perth.
Andy said: “The punters got to choose the challenge so they decided to go for a sky dive.
“What a day it turned out to be. There were six people booked on the course that I went on, of which only three completed and actually jumped.
“I’m glad to say that I was one of the three who took the plunge.
“I’ve swam with Sand Tiger Sharks, Stingrays and did a reverse bungee – all the big adrenaline stuff – but this is far and away the scariest thing I have ever done.”
He raised £1,100 for the specialised baby care unit at the Borders General Hospital, who looked after his son Kris when he was a baby.
Andy added: “He is fine now, but only thanks to the staff in the unit.
“We also raised around £1,000 for the unit from our visit to Kelso Races so in total we have gathered over £2,000.”
