Charity night raises £3,150

Leah and Nikki’s Night at the Casino in Selkirk Rugby Club last Friday raised more than £3,000 for the special care baby unit at Borders General Hospital.

More than 100 women enjoyed a raffle, tombola, silent auction, bingo with playing cards and had the pleasure of two men being tortured, sorry waxed, at the event organised by Nicola Rutherford and her friend Leah Cockburn.

The evening was the third annual fundraiser the friends have organised in memory of Nicola’s daughter, Ava, who was born prematurely in 2009 and cared for at the BGH’s specialist unit.

Nicola said: “We were thrilled to raise £3,150. Over the last three-and-a-half years we have raised £6,000, so we are really excited to add to that. We were lucky to have some really amazing things donated by local businesses.”
