Colonial boy follows in father's steps

THE golden banner of the Colonials will be carried and cast at this year's Common Riding by Alistair Scott from Cape Town in South Africa, writes Bob Burgess.

His appointment as Standard Bearer was confirmed at a meeting of the Colonial Society on Monday.

And it will be a significant homecoming for the Souter – it's 40 years since his father Lawrence cast the same flag.

Alistair comes from a family with a strong Common Riding background. Both his grandfather and father were Attendants to the Royal Burgh Standard Bearer.

Alistair's Lady Busser will be Madelen Johansson.
