Cyclist hurt as he leaves Borders General Hospital

A PEDAL cyclist has fractured his skull after falling from his bike as he left the Borders General Hospital near Melrose, writes Bob Burgess.

The 43-year-old man was found lying on the hospital’s exit road at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

He is bring treated at the hospital but police say his injuries are not life threatening.

Police are investigating what happened and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesman for the Lothian and Borders force said : “We are still trying to establish how the cyclist fell from his bike and are keen to hear from pedestrians or motorists who were in the area at the time.”

Police confirmed the man had just left the hospital and was making his way home.

They have not said whether he was a member of staff, a visitor or an outpatient.
