Extra mile could take Bowhill to tourism award
A SELKIRK business has been shortlisted for this year's Scottish Thistle Awards, the highest accolades for tourism businesses in Scotland.
Bowhill House & Country Estate has been shortlisted under the Extra Mile category which identifies businesses in the tourism sector that have significantly raised their game when it comes to customer service and the quality of the visitor experience.
Around 200 tourism businesses from all over Scotland entered this year's awards, which are organised by the region's official tourism organisation, VisitScotland.
Tourism Minister Jim Mather said: "Many people who make up our national and local tourism sectors continue to deliver a huge and vital contribution to the national and regional economies. No where more so than in the Scottish Borders.
"So I am delighted to acknowledge their critically important work, which is strongly supporting Scotland's economic recovery - achieving 2.7 per cent growth in visitor numbers last year against a global drop of 4 per cent.
"The Scottish Thistle Awards play an important part in achieving these results - setting high standards for excellence, innovation and quality and providing the perfect platform to showcase the array of excellent products and services Scottish tourism has to offer.
"Bowhill House & Country Estate represents excellence in Scottish tourism. They are providing quality, value and memorable experiences that encourage visitors to return to the region again and again, and they should be proud of their work to drive forward the industry."
Sandi Hellowell, regional director for VisitScotland said: "This is fantastic news for the Scottish Borders with the region represented in this formidable competition that will see businesses from all over Scotland battle it out for VisitScotland's coveted Scottish Thistles Awards.
"Bowhill House & Country Estate is a fantastic asset to the tourism offering in the region and a lot of time and resource has been invested in staff training and development here. I wish them all the best in the run-up to the awards ceremony."
Winners of the Scottish Thistle Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony to be held at the EICC on Friday October 29.
