MOURNERS attending the funeral of a man found dead in a burn at Bannerfield have been asked to wear bright colours.
The family of 27-year-old Stuart Hannah has requested that black ties should not be worn. And, in a death notice published in newspapers, it has also asked that instead of sending flowers, friends make donations to Substance Abuse.
Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Hannah whose body was found by a man walking near the Long Philip Burn, about 20 yards from where it joins the Ettrick Water, just before 11am on Sunday.
Ambulance personnel removed the body of Mr Hannah, who lived in nearby Buccleuch Road, from the water and police cordoned off the area, which is behind the former Scottish Borders Council depot, for several hours.
A police spokesman said: “It is normal practice with such incidents, when we don’t immediately know the cause of death, to seal and protect the area which officers investigate.”
But he added: “However, initial enquiries indicate there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Hannah’s death.”
The spokesman said Mr Hannah had last been seen alive on Saturday evening.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Galashiels undertakers David Hardie and Son from whom details can be obtained.
