Forest pitch

THE unique football pitch carved out of an area of pristine forest near Selkirk looks finally set to see some action when the two scheduled matches to be played as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad finally kick-off.

The matches, which will feature four teams of players from around the world, will be held next Saturday, August 25.

They were meant to have been played last month, but were postponed due to bad weather.

The arena where the matches will be played has been created in the heart of a spruce plantation, on land near Selkirk belonging to the Duke of Buccleuch.

Edinburgh artist Craig Coulthard says the ‘Forest Pitch’ project is a way to highlight the founding spirit of the modern Olympic Games.
