Four houses at Fairfield too many, claim objectors
Four houses at Fairfield too many, claim objectors
PLANS for four new three-bedroomed houses on a vacant plot in Fairfield Drive have been opposed by Selkirk Community Council.
And three near-neighbours have also lodged objections to the proposal by Paul Hermiston who is seeking consent in principle from Scottish Borders Council. The site, close to the junction with Bleachfield Road, has been earmarked for housing for many years and a previous applicant was given outline permission to build a single house there.
But that consent has lapsed and the neighbours, along with the community council, believe the new proposal represents overdevelopment.
Vic Pemberton of 3 Fairfield Drive, said he had no problem with one house but was concerned the new plans would see the loss of four mature trees which are covered by a tree preservation order.
"Road safety would also be a major issue with more traffic using the junction [just up from the bus stop] with Bleachfield Road which is already a rat run through the town," he added.
Mr R. Scott, of 2 Fairfield Drive wrote that while he was keen to see the site developed, he feared the houses would block light from his garden.
