Getting ready to Boogie on down at Philiphaugh
OVER the years, Souters have raised untold thousands for Cancer Research.
And later this month, the charity’s coffers are set to be further boosted when the Border Boogie Band performs in the Philiphaugh Suite of Selkirk Rugby Club.
The licensed event, which will feature a light supper, takes place on Friday, February 24, at 7.30 for 8pm.
“I’m delighted these top-class musicians have agreed to donate their services to the charity,” said organiser Keith Hendrie. “I’ve seen them many times and they are terrific entertainers. The joint, as they say, is sure to be jumping.”
The Border Boogie Band retains three of its original 1981 line-up – singer Andrew Keddie, guitarist Frank Usher and drummer David Little – and this was boosted in 1998 by the inclusion of bassist Gavin Dickie and guitarist Dave Coyle, from Selkirk.
Usher is well known for his work with musical legends John Martyn and Melanie and, with Dickie, is in the new touring band of ex-Marillion frontman Fish. Coyle cut his performing teeth with Selkirk rockers Red October and went on to play John Peel sessions with indie favourites Dawn of the Replicants.
The band have secured a loyal following over three decades, as evidenced by their sell-out Hogmanay gig at the Wynd Theatre in Melrose. On Good Friday (April 6), they have been booked for a return visit to the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles.
Tickets (£10) for the rugby club fundraiser are available from Keith on 21666.
