Man killed in Tweedsmuir crash came from London

A PASSENGER who was killed in a two-car crash near Tweedsmuir has been named as Subramaniyam Thaveselvam from Abbot's Road, Southall, London.

Police today renewed their appeal for information to Sunday morning's smash which injured four others, including a schoolboy.

A sixth person escaped unhurt in the collision on the A701 south of Tweedsmuir near the boundary with Dumfries & Galloway.

It is not known if the accident on Sunday morning was related to wintry conditions that have existed in the area for around two weeks.

The 39-year-old who died was a passenger in a north-bound Daewoo Leganza which was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta travelling south.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders at Hawick said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"We would also be keen to hear from anyone who may have seen either vehicle just before the incident.

Helicopter helped with evacuation of casualties

The Leganza's 41-year-old driver sustained chest and stomach injuries and a second passenger aged 30, was kept in hospital for observation.

All three were airlifted by RAF helicopter to the Royal Infirmary in Dumfries.

An 11-year-old boy in the back seat of the Ford was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital with seatbelt injuries

A 59-year-old front seat passenger in the Ford was treated for leg injuries at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The driver - a 33-year-old man escaped unhurt.

Emergency services were alerted to the accident around 10.25am and the A701 was closed until 3pm to allow a police investigation to take place.
