Missing Ruthie found 15 miles away in Tweed
Missing dog Ruthie from Yarrowford
A MUCH-LOVED pet dog was recovered from the River Tweed 15 miles from where she lived and weeks after she had gone missing.
Yarrowford owner Jan Watson this week expressed gratitude to Arthurshiel Rescue Centre which collected the body of her two-year-old crossbreed, Ruthie, from the river.
The adored collie-lurcher cross went missing at the end of November.
Jan said: “Somebody had been walking by the Tweed at Lowood – that’s about 15 miles from here – and had seen the remains of a dog and reported it. They were wonderful at Arthurshiel. They didn’t have to respond, but they did. I’m so grateful to Shona (Middlemas, co-owner of Arthurshiel). What a ghastly task for her and her husband Tom. I brought Ruthie home and she is buried in the garden. I don’t know what happened, but we can only suppose she drowned in the burn. The weather was appalling all that week she went missing.”
Jan has offered to help fundraise for Arthurshiel, saying: “They do such good work.”
