Moffat link to revitalising valleys
BETTER links with Moffat could boost trade in Ettrick and Yarrow valleys, writes Sally Gillespie.
That is one of the suggestions contained in the Valleys Community Development Plan, out on Monday.
The document is the result of 18 months’ work by regeneration project officer Julie Nock following a survey of the area’s 380 homes last year. Hard copies of the plan will be in the valleys’ five halls by Monday and it can also be seen online at www.sup.org.uk
One suggestion is to find the estimated £1.5-2million needed to resurface the old road from Potburn to Capplegill over Bodesbecklaw.
It was last used by traffic at the end of the 1950s and most recently by a vintage tractor rally in June this year. Another idea is to lobby for a forest toll road between Potburn to the A708 (Moffat to Selkirk road) for locals and forestry companies, which would direct timber trucks away from valley roads and allow locals better access to Moffat.
There is a drop-in session between 3-7pm at Yarrowford Village Hall on Monday when the plan will be on show and locals have a chance to put their views across and ask questions.
