LOCAL MP Michael Moore has survived David Cameron’s Cabinet reshuffle.

His escape is not being seen as a surprise because of the role he is playing in the battle between Cameron’s Westminster government and Alex Salmond’s Holyrood government over the planned referndum on independence.

Mr Moore commented: “In the next few months I will be continuing my work to ensure that the independence referendum, which will determine the future of Scotland, is legal, fair and decisive and I am urging the Scottish Government to work with us to achieve this aim.

“Combining Scottish Secretary with my responsibilities as Borders MP is a great privilege and I am committed to continuing to fulfil both roles energetically.

“Scotland faces many challenges in terms of the economy, growth and jobs and I am committed to getting the best deal for Borderers and all other Scots.”
