TWO Selkirk groups will take part in a historic German event in the Royal Burgh's twin town this weekend.
Ceilidh group Riddell Fiddles and skiffle band Bogie's Close Stompers set off for Bavaria yesterday (Thursday) lunchtime to Plattling to perform at the Nibelungen festival.
The three-day event sees around 500 men, women and children re-enact their town's history by dressing in medieval costumes with entertainment provided throughout the weekend.
The Riddell Fiddles and the Stompers will both join in with the medieval theme after Bogie's Close administrator Lesley Wood arranged light costumes for the musicians - perfectly suited to the 30 degree plus heat currently being experienced in Bavaria.
Bogie's Close Stompers perform tonight as the closing act of the opening day, while the Riddell Fiddles are the climax to Saturday's entertainment.
Sheila Sapkota of the Fiddles said: "Support from the twinning committees in the respective towns has made this trip possible and thanks are due to John Munro for co-ordinating this and for financial support towards bus travel."
The trip will last five days, after which the groups will separate to continue their hectic schedules.
The lottery-supported Stompers will continue their world tour of village halls in the Borders while Trad Music Award nominees Riddell Fiddles will be playing at Eastgate Theatre as part of Peebles Arts Festival.
