Pair step out on creative venture
the current and former Selkirk Opera choreographers, Marie McCullough and Katie Robinson, are setting up a performing arts school.
Creative Stage, which will be Borders-wide, starts in Selkirk next Saturday (September 8) offering baby ballet and performing arts troupe classes to tots and primary schoolchildren.
The duo will teach ballet, tap and jazz dancing, as well as singing and acting, to all ages.
Marie, who is the only dance teacher in the Borders to hold the Associates of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance qualification, said: “We’re really into performing and really want to put on lots of showcases so parents can see what their children have been doing.”
The 36-year-old, who moved to Selkirk 11 years ago, qualified in musical theatre, toured and performed in pantos and musicals, playing lead parts and working much of the time for Kudos Productions.
Originally from Oxton, Katie, 23, started baby ballet aged two and went on to learn jazz and tap. She too qualified in musical theatre and teaching before performing cabaret in Portugal, dancing on cruise ships, and performing in Shanghai, Singapore and Dubai.
She’s also danced with pop star Kelis and crooner Cliff Richard.
