Petrol-less Punto man banned
A DRIVER who ran out of petrol and began pushing his car has been banned from driving for three years.
Police smelled alcohol on Rory Clarke’s breath and subsequent tests showed a reading of 53 mcgs – 18 above the legal limit.
He was spotted by officers pushing and steering his Fiat Punto on the A708 at the back of Selkirk Rugby Club.
Clarke, of Buccleuch Road, told police he’d drunk “a couple of pints”.
He admitted the offence and was told by Sheriff Kevin Drummond: “This is your second conviction for an offence of driving with excess alcohol and I grant the Crown motion for forfeiture of the vehicle.”
Clarke’s lawyer Richard Souter said the 33-year-old had collected his car from the Three Brethren car park and had then ran out of petrol.
He was fined £335 and the Punto – valued at around £400 – is now likely to be crushed.
