Race night cash

SELKIRK joiner Philip Hermiston raised more than £1,400 at a race night at O’Malleys in the town on Saturday night.

The runner hopes to complete the London Marathon later this year and needs to raise £2,000 to run it for NSPCC.

He said: “It’s absolutely amazing we raised that much at the race night and I want to say thanks to the sponsors and to everybody who turned up.”

The event, which was followed by a disco, raised £1,409.

The dad-of-two said: “I am running on behalf of the NSPCC as I feel it is a very worthwhile charity and hopefully will make a difference to some children who need help and support.”

The 32-year-old ran Glasgow Half Marathon four years ago and is in training for his first 26-miler in the capital in April. He works for PJ and PA Hermiston in the town and he and wife Hayley have three-year-old Arran and Phoebe, who is just over six weeks old.
