Signs out of their time
Two of the businesses signs which need updating at Selkirk Riverside.
ETTRICK Riverside’s out-of-date business signs were given the brush off this week, writes Kenny Paterson.
Community councillor Jim Gibson inquired at Monday’s meeting about the six placards naming local firms which operate factories and offices from the industrial area.
However, a number of the companies are no longer in existence or have moved out, such as Selkirk Glass, Gardiner’s Mill, Signum and Laidlaw and Fairgrieve.
Selkirkshire councillor Gordon Edgar says he has been trying to find out who is responsible for the signs, without success.
He said: “They were put up about 15 years ago and have never been amended.

“It was part of the partnership agreement between the council and Scottish Enterprise, but they have gone away and left it.
“It should have been put down on paper who was on responsible for them.”
Mr Edgar says he has been advising new businesses to replace defunct firms’ names with its own on the signs.
Community Council Chairman Graham Easton added: “We still have the problem with the old out-of-date Selkirk sign on the A7 from Hawick, so how long will this take?”
