Taste of Africa in Selkirk
SELKIRK’s amateur cooks are to be shown how to get the best out of Fairtrade ingredients to create tasty African dishes at a special culinary roadshow on Tuesday night at 7pm, writes Mark Entwistle.
The Victoria Halls will be the venue for the ‘Savour the Flavour African Kitchen Tour’, which is free, and has been organised by the Co-operative in conjunction with Just Trading Scotland and the Scottish Fair Trade Forum.
The event will feature recipe tips and ideas, as well as Fairtrade tastings and the chance to take part in a free prize draw to win Fairtrade products.
The roadshow is part of the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives and is in support of Scotland’s bid for Fair Trade Nation status.
Among the dishes event-goers will learn how to create are Malawian dhal and potato soup, coconut rice with chicken and Malawian macadamia shorties.
Organiser Liz Armstrong, Co-operative membership officer in Scotland, said the organisation had a proud record in supporting the fair trade movement.
“And this is a great opportunity for people to learn how to get the most out of Fairtrade produce to make authentic African dishes, while having some fun at the same time.”
Tickets are free, but should be pre-booked by contacting Co-operative Membership on 0141 304 5582.
