YARROW and Ettrick Show is going ahead with organisers hoping the good weather holds for the event near Selkirk tomorrow.

Show-goers are urged to ignore the “road closed” sign on the A708 at the edge of the town as it refers to forestry work near Moffat: drivers can gain access to the showground at Philiphaugh Old Mill Farm.

Show secretary Anne Turnbull said: “The forecast for the week is good and we have all got our fingers and toes crossed.

“Entries are fantastic – there are big sheep entries and a huge horse entry, I think probably because of the cancellations of other shows this summer everybody is keen to get out.”

The Yarrow and Ettrick Pastoral Society’s showyard committee gave the event the thumbs-up after a field inspection last Wednesday.

On show will be Blackface, South and North Country Cheviots, park and prime lambs and Greyface sheep.

The horse section features mountain and moorland, working hunter, in-hand and ridden hunter and colour horse classes plus games and show jumping.

Melrose Pipe and Selkirk Silver bands will form some of the afternoon ring entertainment where the pet and dog show judging will also take place along with children’s races.
