A family affair at Merchants’ dinner

Selkirk Merchant Company’s annual Colour Bussin’ at the Victoria Halls on Tuesday was chaired by its Master, Jim Cockburn.

After dinner, Allan Marshall led the Company in singing Hail Smilin Morn, before Merchant Company Standard Bearer Andrew Anderson’s wife, Anna Pettinicchio, bussed the Craft’s new banner.

Mr Alan Elliott then toasted the 2014 Standard Bearer, followed by a song ‘Selkirk Fairest’, sung by Tommy Knox.

Andrew Anderson then replied to the toast, and Hilary Bell sang Lord Yesterday.

Sir Michael Strang Steel toasted Selkirk Merchant Company and The Royal and Ancient Burgh, before both Tommy Knox and Hilary Bell sang a duet The Roses.Provost David Anderson, Andrew’s brother, replied to the toast, followed by a rendition of Boys of the Old Brigade by Allan Marshall. Finally Mark Nichol gave the vote of thanks, and the company sang Auld Lang Syne.
