BOWDEN community council secretary Andrea Beavon is donning her running shoes for the first time since school days.
For the women and children’s campaigner is set to complete 13.2 miles at Jedburgh half-marathon on Sunday in memory of a friend.
The council’s Violence Against Women and Domestic Abuse coordinator hopes to raise £1,000 for Asthma UK.
Andrea said: “Earlier this year I lost a very dear friend, Mandy Young, without warning, and I now want to honour her memory. She died suddenly, and we are all still missing her dreadfully. Finishing the half-marathon won’t bring Mandy back, but it will go some way to ensuring something positive comes from our loss.
“I have never run a mile, let alone 13.2 miles. I only started training on July 1,” said Andrea, who runs the Eildon Hills tracks and does zumba. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/Andrea-Beavon.
