The Ex-Standard Bearers came out on top for the fifth time in six years at the annual playing of the bowls match between them and the Selkirk Merchant Company.
Competing for the Shawburn Cup on the Ettrick Forest green, the Merchant Company went in favourites, with the Ex-Standard Bearers missing a host of regulars due to work commitments and holidays.
This forced the late call-up of rugby player Gavin Craig, the son of the 1979 Standard Bearer Wilson Craig, and also Jock Craig, father of the 2007 Standard Bearer Ally Craig.
The match was a tense affair that finished two rinks a-piece.
However, it was the Ex-Standard Bearers that came out with the cup by virtue of a three shot margin.
After the match Master of Selkirk Merchant Company Jim Cockburn presented Ex- Standard Bearers’ chairman Keith Riddell with the Shawburn Cup and thanked Ettrick Forest Bowling Club for allowing the use of the green and for all their hospitality during the event.
