Call to Stow to come support Sports Week

Stow Sports Week got off to a great start on Sunday with the annual football tournament.

But as ever, there has been a wide variety of entertainment on offer, from traditional boules competitions to tomorrow night’s much anticipated fancy dress parade, with the Sports Week dance to round off the festivities.

The fancy dress parade takes place tomorrow night (Friday) on the playing fields, where people should start gathering at 6.30pm for 7pm.

Judging classes include: Best Dressed Girl under 8, Best Dressed Boy under 8, Best Dressed Girl 8-10, Best Dressed Boy 8-10, Best Dressed Girl 11-14, Best Dressed Boy 11-14, Best Dressed Couple, Best Dressed Group (Children), Best Dressed Group (Mixed), Best Dressed Rider (Cycle or Horse), Most Humorous, and Best Dressed Float. The overall winner will receive The Keddie Cup.

Sports in the Park is on Saturday, when races start at 1pm prompt.

Locals are asked to meet at the Town Hall at 12.30pm to follow the Pipe Band to the park. The committee has organised a full programme of events, including refreshments and attractions.

Entries for the adult sports must be returned to the handicappers, Hamish Hunter (01896 730740) orAndrew Riddell( 01896 730457) or handed into Hunter Architecture, 231 Galashiels Road, Stow, no later than tomorrow.

Late entries will not be listed in the programme.

Competitors must have reached their 15th birthday to compete in adult events.Entrants in the children’s cycle race, must wear a helmet.

If after a day of exercise you are not too exhausted, there will be more fun and dancing at Stow Sports Ceildh, which takes place on Saturday, from 8pm till late in the Town Hall.

There will be a licensed bar, and this year the band, by popular request, are The Strangers.
