County Hotel co-owner Will Haegeland has been reappointed chairman of Selkirk Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

At the business association’s annual general meeting on Tuesday it was also agreed to retain the existing committee.

The chamber is growing and in order to cope with this development Edith Scott has been appointed to the new post of membership secretary. Her position of secretary has been filled by Fiona Corbett.

Chairman Will commented: “We represent companies in Selkirk and members have been working hard to highlight the town as a place of choice in which to do business, encouraging entrepreneurial spirit, camaraderie among business owners and enterprising events that can make a difference.”

Will outlined what he saw as their many achievements.

These include the pop-up shops for innovation in rejuvenating the town centre, the success of the approach for a Business Improvement District grant which brought in £25,000 for development, the walking festival, floral baskets, the introduction of the New Year on the Square and the introduction of master classes on social networking for businesses. He also applauded the work done on the creation of future business development projects.
