Fresh police appeal after Melrose Abbey wall damaged

Police have issued a fresh plea for information in their bid to trace the driver who partially demolished a boundary wall at Melrose Abbey.

It happened sometime on March 17 when around 10 metres of dry stone dyke on Annay Road was damaged.

It’s estimated that it will take a substantial four-figure sum to carry out repairs.

Constable James Thomson of Police Scotland said on Monday: “There were no markings or debris left and it looks like the wall has been hit with low impact.

“But it is a hit-and-run nevertheless, and a costly one, so we urge any members of the public with any details that may assist us to come forward.”

Call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
