Yarrow Primary School’s Madalaine Cross beat 2,000 entries from 42 schools to win a Walk To School Week competition.
The P6 pupil’s design for a sticker and logo was chosen to be worn by Borders primary schools for Walk To School Weeks in May and October.
Madalaine was announced winner at Scottish Borders Council’s second Active School Travel Awards last Tuesday.
The honours were presented to the 10 schools with the highest percentage of pupils in their area who walk, cycle, scooter or “park and stride” to school.
Presenting the awards, Councillor Gordon Edgar said “I would like to congratulate the children.
“By looking closely at how they travel, pupils can help to improve their health and road safety, as well as protect the local environment.”
The winners of the Active School Travel champion awards are: Knowepark Primary School, Hawick High School, Coldstream Primary School, Cockburnspath Primary School, Langlee Primary School, Newcastleton Primary School, Ancrum Primary School, Broomlands Primary School, Walkerburn Primary School and St Boswells Primary School.
