‘Yince a Souter, Aye a Souter’

Thanking Edinburgh Souters for their medallion at the Colonial Society’s Bussin, Royal Burgh Standard Bearer Greg MacDougall spoke of the exiles’ devotion to Selkirk.

He told the company of 350:“The motto on your Flag is clear, Yince a Souter, Aye a Souter and as you gather under its folds on Friday morning, enjoy the occasion, enjoy the spectacle, enjoy the cameraderie, because Selkirk Common Riding is beyond compare.

Addressing Kenny directly, Greg added: “Selkirk Common Riding runs deep in the veins of the Thomson family: George Thomson Senior 1964, brother George 2012, and now you Kenneth in 2014. I can only imagine how proud your father would have been, as you complete this unique family hat-trick.

“Of the many ceremonies that take place, the Colonial Society’s Bussin touches another chord and the Bussin is a declaration of the loyalty to Selkirk, of all her members from pole to pole.”
