Man badly hurt in nightclub attack

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after an attack in a nightclub, police said.

The 23-year-old was assaulted in Sugar Cube nightclub in Queen Street, Glasgow, at around 3.15am.

The man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious. A 22-year-old woman suffered an arm injury in the incident.

Strathclyde Police said they have found no motive for the attack and are reviewing CCTV from the area.

Officers want to trace a suspect who is white, around 5ft 9in, well built with short brown hair. He was wearing a dark coloured jumper and headed towards Argyle Street after the incident.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Glass said: "A young man has been seriously injured - as yet the motive remains unclear.

"Our inquiry is at an early stage and we are in the process of piecing together the details of what happened.

"I would appeal to anyone who was at the nightclub last night and who may have any information about the incident or the suspect to please get in touch with us.

"There may well be information which could prove vital in helping us trace the person responsible for this attack."
