BOWHILL House and Country Park has become the Borders first visitor attraction to be given a five-star rating by VisitScotland.
House guides, gardeners, countryside rangers, shop and tearoom staff gathered outside the historic house to celebrate the award last week

And education events officer Helen Currie said: “We are ever so proud of these five stars and it’s not because of one or two people, it’s everybody, it’s very much a team effort.

“And to my knowledge, it’s exceptional – we think we are the only one in the Borders.”

Berwickshire’s Paxton House has five stars for being a historic house, but the Bowhill award is broader.

“Ours covers more than the house, it covers right across the board, the house, the countryside park, the shop and the tearoom. It’s amazing: everybody has worked so hard and it’s a sign of the huge investment the family has made,” said Mrs Currie.
