LOCAL mountain bike hero Arran Gannicott has kicked off the 2008 SDA Downhill series with a victory at Dunkeld.
The youths' category is going to be a closely-fought battle between Arran, 16, and Innerleithen's Lewis Buchanan.

This time round, it was Arran who took the win by 5.5sec over Lewis in second place.

A mix of exposed slippery roots, large rocks and old tree stumps on a steep hill side made the Perthshire course very tricky for most of the riders, but Arran remained focused throughout to take his first podium place of the season.

Next on the calendar is the start of the national series at Ae Forest on April 27.
