THE opening of the new season took place at the Selkirk green on Saturday with the traditional throwing of the first jack.
Gordon Munro, the newly-elected president of Selkirk Bowling Club, invited Jean Hinchcliffe, spokesperson for the ladies' section, to do the honours.

Addressing the members, Mr Munro thanked them for the hard work they had put in spring cleaning the clubhouse and locker rooms.

He also praised the green staff on the condition of the playing surface and surrounding gardens, before thanking members of the club who had organised the coffee morning which took place prior to the opening.

The previous day at the Ettrick Forest green, president John Pringle invited Betty Burgess to throw the first jack.
